Terrific Political Crisis Unravels in Mexico as Government Crumbles
The situation in Mexico has been dire, but it has taken a turn for the kind of worse that was recently simply unimaginable.
Scavengers are roaming through city streets, with grocery stores and small businesses falling prey to merciless robbers. As many as 29 of the country’s 32 states have been affected by the chaos. Mexican social media boil over with calls for violence; violence omnipresent even without the need for additional incentives. The reason for the state in which Mexico has found itself?
Price of Gas in Mexico Reaches Crazy Levels
It seems to be the price of gas, such a regular reason for social unrest in numerous states. The prices are reported to have risen by 20%, an enormous reason that made the life of an ordinary Mexican much more difficult. The price of gas influences almost all aspects of everyday life. It doesn’t only make your drive to work that much more expensive – it also causes food prices and prices of various services to rise due to transport costs suddenly spiking. The fact that the rise in prices came as a surprise to the citizens didn’t help at all to calm the situation. However, according to experts the current breakdown is not actually caused by the gas issue – the reasons for it are rooted much deeper.
Corruption and Unemployment – Mexican People’s Frustrations
Mexicans have long been frustrated by the lack of reaction on the government’s side. Corruption is ardent and unemployment has been on the rise, especially in the central and the southern part of the country. Most states have been in a state of general unrest for rest – it seems that the gas prices have been nothing but a last straw. But does this type of governmental incompetence justify the horrid scenes that are now unravelling in Mexican cities, the capital included? There are theories in circulation that suggest a much darker reality to be the case.
Lack of Trust in the Mexican Police Force
What has been happening in Mexico is thought to have been planned – it might not be a spontaneous uprising by the citizens. Additionally, wouldn’t they be too afraid to put up such intense fights against the police? According to an official study, 27.7% of Mexicans believe their police officers to be absolutely controlled by the government, and 38% – that they are somewhat controlled. In order to riot so fiercely against its own government, the people would have to be truly agitated. Or maybe its their frustration that finally found an outlet?
Storm Before the Calm or Mexican Civil War?
Whatever the emotions of a common Mexican citizens might be, some conspiration theories have surged that would have us believe it was government that is causing a sort of controlled chaos. They don’t want independent rebels to uprise, so they themselves are who is responsible for current happenings. Some even believe it is the military who are the driving force behind the protests. According to the conspiration theories, the soldiers want to push the government to approve a bill that would increase their power as soon as possible. Meanwhile, others think the government is trying to prepare for the upcoming presidential election by wreaking the current havoc…
