Stars Brave Enough to Do Their Own Stunts

Posted on

There’s nothing like an exciting action sequence that makes you think “How were they not afraid to try this crap out?” However, then comes the moment when you realize it’s not your favorite celeb who’s just jumped out of the car, it’s his stuntman. Or is it? Check out the list of movie stars who will deal with every crazy scene.

Jason Statham

It wasn’t Jason Statham’s bravery that put him into a stuntman’s shoes for the first time. He once told the CBS that when he was acting in his first movie, the producers simply didn’t have the money to hire an additional stuntman, so he had to take care of every sequence himself. He describes the decision as “digging his own grave”, as now the producers take it for granted that he will agree to every crazy idea of theirs, and the sequences do get more dangerous with each movie. But Jason doesn’t give up and seems to enjoy his perilous craft. He also speaks highly of actors such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger whose bodies are the best evidence of their dedication. When Statham was playing in Expendables 3, he actually fell into the sea behind the wheel of a truck, but the accident didn’t faze him. He simply surfaced and told the crew to carry on with the sequence…

Tom Cruise

He might be half a century old already and he may be a daddy, but in his spare time, Tom Cruise is still rocking the silver screen. In the various movies of Mission: Impossible franchise the guy really showed his worth. Just remember him running down the Burj Khalifa building – the tallest in existence, which happened in Ghost Protocol. It’s also worth mentioning when he hung off a plane as it took off in Rogue Nation.

Angelina Jolie

The prettier sex also has some stars to brag about. Remember Salt? It seems a whole different movie to me now that I know it really was Angelina all along. Impersonating a badass spy, Jolie created a beautiful set of dance-like fights and jumped onto a truck. A moving truck. Yikes. There were some sacrifices on the set of Salt, too. When recording one of the fights Angelina cut her face so bad that the scar remains there to this day.

Harrison Ford

The famous Indiana Jones is a real badass in the real life, too. Harrison Ford even came up with some of the stunts himself and improvised them while the camera was rolling. One time Indiana was scripted to engage in a fight with an opponent wielding a sword, but all he did was… shoot him. Why? Ford wasn’t feeling well and wanted the scene over. A bit later in the same movie Indy was hit by a plane – and so was Harrison, so seriously that he should have been taken to the hospital. But he chose to stay on the set. Wow.

Chloe Grace Moretz

One of the amazing stars of Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2, Chloe Grace Moretz wasn’t even allowed to see her own movie due to her age, but she surely added some grit to it with her amazing performance. A skilled dancer, she did most of the stunts herself, with the exception of, to quote her, “running up the walls and stuff.” Still impressive for a 13-year-old.

Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is one of the best modern Bonds, and the major reason is that he seems as cold-blooded as his character, brave enough to deal with the craziest sequences. He said himself, in an interview with The Telegraph, that it was his personal goal to exert himself as much as possible in the movies, granting the franchise with more than his bare chest. In his very first Bond film, Casino Royale, he even jumped from one crane onto another in the midst of a fight. And yes, it was all for real.

Christian Bale

Christian Bale took him onto himself to become an expert in martial arts as he wanted to be the one to fight as many battles as possible through the Batman trilogy. Some may say it’s not enough, as Bale did have a double who took care of the most extreme sequences. But if you’re one of those people, remember The Machinist – the movie that had Bale lose 65 pounds just to look better as his character.
