Mexican Crisis: Instability, Unrest, and No Visible Improvement

Blatant Corruption on the Rise amongst the Higher Ups

Source: http://internacional.elpais.com/

Javier Duarte, ex-governor of Veracruz, will be infamously remembered for much more than being just another corrupt official. He went on the run in a most grotesque way, leaving 23,000,000 pesos (more than $1,000,000) behind. The cash was stacked in cardboard boxes in a house in the capital. $9,000,000 of dirty money that Duarte was supposed to receive were fortunately restored and will be used to aid the state of Veracruz. What makes Duarte’s actions even more repugnant is the fact that the state he governed is one of the poorest in the country, indebted by almost 2,000 millions of dollars. The frustration of Mexicans comes to no surprise when they have to endure such indignities.
