DiCaprio – Debunking Myths

Posted on

It seems that Leonardo DiCaprio can be called a polymath, a man of all trades – or at least, he could describe himself similarly to Iron Man. You know, “a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist” come alive… Leo has also had successes in ecology, aiding the UN on a conference regarding the global warming, and he even owns his own island, but not everything you’ve heard about him is true – incoming, a few facts as false as exciting about no one else but Leo.

A FANCY MEAL AT… PLANET HOLLYWOOD

This hoax might end up being the largest you’ve ever heard of and it would probably have no chance of succeeding today, but back in 1998, the world was still for the taking. Nancy Jo Sales, at the time a reporter resident in New York, brought everyone to a boil with “Leo, Prince of the City”, a story focused on following in DiCaprio’s footsteps as he engaged in a partying spree in Manhattan. And do remember it was in the 90’s, with Leo thrice the party binger he is now.

Back to Nancy and her story – it’s not like she followed the real DiCaprio, but her plan came to fruition thanks to the help of Troy Allen from Detroit. Who the hell is he? All you need to know is that he’s an exact lookalike of Leonardo. “How’d you like to be Leo for a night?” from Nancy’s mouth was all it took for him to agree to her crazy scheme.

Almost everything was fake, but people still believed – all it took was a doppelganger in a limo surrounded by bodyguards and a bunch of excited youngsters, actually – Troy’s real friends who also got to live an adventure. As paparazzo started swarming around the car, so did the onlookers; then came the best bit, with Nancy calling Planet Hollywood to secure a table. And yes, she did say she was “coming with Leo”. The tourist went crazy at the sight of the celebrity; even the restaurant’s owner announced he would soon drop by to greet DiCaprio himself.

“My worst fear for this experiment was that nothing would happen, and I’d have wasted everyone’s time on a harebrained scheme,” admitted Nancy after the whole thing died down. “Quite the opposite occurred, which turned out to be much scarier.”

A MYSTERIOUS MODEL PROPOSAL

“It wasn’t planned,” OK! magazine found out after Leo visited an Italian NYC restaurant with his then-girlfriend, Kelly Rohrbach. “They were enjoying a bottle of red wine and engrossed in conversation… And then Leo paused and looked at her and said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.” All this was supposed to occur in October of 2015, but actually, it was just another rumor that never came to life. After lengthy episodes with models such as Toni Garrn, Gisele Bundchen, and Bar Refaeli, Leonardo could be Hollywood’s most experienced actor and every time he starts dating a new beauty, gossip emerges – but it’s never true.

DEFLORATING FAUNA!?

In Leo’s latest film, The Revenant, our favorite actor impersonates a fur trapper called Hugh Glass. People of this craft tend to have many an encounter with bears… But there has actually been a claim that Hugh was RAPED by one!

“It’s almost a ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit,” explained the movie’s director, Iñárritu, “I find it hilarious, and pathetic in a way…When I first saw [the rumor], I thought it was a joke. But then it gets validation, and the studio actually has to release a statement that there was no bear rape. It’s like a crazy mad comedy.”

You have to admit that the power of gossip is enormous! “It’s absurd,” is what DiCaprio himself had to say on the subject. In the actuality, Hugh Glass does indeed come across a whole bear family and ends up assaulted, but there is no sexual aspect to that attack at all. Lucky Leo!

GOLDEN GLOBES GORE WITH GAGA

DiCaprio was exactly the man who supplied the media with their favorite bit of any award show – the controversy! The Golden Globes of the year 2015 wouldn’t be worthy of the name if someone didn’t trip on the red carpet. This time, it was Lady Gaga, the lead star of the newest season of American Horror Story. There was an explosion of speculations after she thumped into Leo in her fall. Why did that happen!? Would Leo hate Gaga now? Or would he end up with his face black and blue after an encounter with Taylor Kinney, the vengeful fiancé of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta? (And yes, that’s Gaga’s full name!)

Obviously, it was all just the Internet living an enjoyable lie. Leonardo has recently said that he doesn’t comprehend “where this stuff comes from or how it’s even captured.” Additionally, it seems that his relationship with Gaga is nothing but gold, as he claims the duo “were laughing at it at the after-party.”

JUST STOP NOMINATING HIM, IT HURTS

1994, 2005, 2007, 2014… What’s the connection between those days? What you think – it was dead certain DiCaprio would get an Oscar each of these years and as you probably know all too well, he never did. Leonardo was as young as 19 when he was first appreciated for the supporting role in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape where he impersonated Arnie. Roger Ebert, one of Hollywood’s most renowned critics, said “He deserves it” at the time, but it was of no help; it was Tommy Lee Jones who seized the statuette for his part in The Fugitive. In 2005, Leonardo had another go with his role in The Aviator, but as we already know, he went home with nothing, outplayed by Ray’s Jamie Foxx. DiCaprio’s third failure in 2007 was probably the catalyst for the great myth of the actor who’s always nominated and never wins.

In 2014, it seemed that Leo’s demise was nearing its end. His role of Jordan Belfort, the genius stock broker and The Wolf of Wall Street was clearly remarkable, but apparently, even that wasn’t enough to impress The Academy. Matthew McConaughey went home with the statuette and Leo must have grown bitter. Now we’re in 2016 and Leonardo has been nominated again for his lead in The Revenant. DiCaprio’s the talk of the town again as February 28 draws nigh, but is there even a point in considering him a potential winner if… he is cursed? We will find out soon.
