British Magazines Have a Go At Prince William
How proud the British were when Prince William, their golden boy, landed a new and exciting job at the East Anglican Air Ambulance Service! Unfortunately, the prince’s good rep seems to have deteriorated as there are multiple rumors claiming he’s not really getting his share of tasks done. The Duke and the Duchess both have been hard at work with another thing, though – trying to set things straight with the press. See what The Sun has to say, assuring the readers that the info is legit and comes from verified sources:
“No one really wants to admit it openly, but it was the talk of Sandringham over Christmas that he does nothing. He wanted to move to Norfolk to give him the life of the gentleman country farmer, like his friends. Everything has been set up — his pilot job, his duties, his home — so he can do this. Shooting, fishing, house parties at weekends and a very private life with his family away from the cameras are the order of the day. All his friends live this country lifestyle and so, now, does he.
He’s hardly ever on shift. He was very enthusiastic to begin with but it tailed off. It’s supposed to be four on, four off but with the Duke it’s more off than on. He had at least four weeks off over Christmas, which has to be staffed the same as normal weeks. It’s fine that he gets a bit of special treatment but it’s beginning to really annoy some people. The rumour is that he’s just a bit bored of it. I think he would have loved to stay in the RAF, being a search and rescue pilot, but that branch’s privatisation put the kibosh on that.
He’s changed since he’s had kids. He’s much more forceful and less easy-going. I’ve heard he can be quite petulant and demanding with his staff. Ultimately he says he wants to lead a normal life but that would involve giving up being a royal. And he would never do that.”

So the royal family could never stand such trash talk being thrown around when it concerns their boy – their PR folks stepped in quite quickly and released an official statement. Jason Knauf, the true 007 agent of the royal PR, addressed the gossip by assuring the public that the Prince is actually legally “restricted” from showing up at work (at least, piloting work) when he’s on a “rest day”, an institution that affects all pilots. However, this time it was Telegraph who decided to challenge the royal family:
“Kensington Palace has blamed European red tape for preventing the Duke of Cambridge carrying out more royal duties. The Duke has faced accusations in some quarters that he is “lazy” because he has only carried out two royal engagements this year, in addition to his part-time job as an air ambulance pilot. Palace sources claimed that Civil Aviation Authority rules on rest periods, which are handed down from Brussels, mean the Duke is banned from doing any sort of work on some of his rest days, including carrying out royal duties.
But the CAA rubbished the excuse, saying pilots could do what they wanted on rest days, even including paid employment, as long as it did not involve flying aircraft.
The CAA said the Duke’s staff were ‘confused’ about the rest periods and flying regulations.”

Sure. So that’s what the British tax money goes for, right? Confused staff? So yeah, let’s get back to the main question – how much time is it really that His Royal Highness devotes to the respectable endeavor of laboring? Prince William seemed to be content at RAF, but still, it came as quite a surprise to the public when he left his job there and header for the East Anglican Air Ambulance, where he was supposed to work as a search and rescue pilot. There were even reports of the young royal working as much as 30 hours a week – quite a feat for a Prince. But then EAAA said it was actually 80 hours a month. I’m not much of a mathematician, but that does equal 20 hours a week, not one more – sorry. So what was it that impeded HRH from showing up at more royal parties? Let’s hear out what The Daily Mail has to say:
“William has form for going missing in action, to the growing concern of courtiers and senior Royals. And it is something they are determined to address. Prince Charles is hoping his own sense of duty and workaholic view of life will in time rub off a little. Others are more direct. One friend of the Royal Family referred to William as radiating a sense of ‘entitlement and petulance’, while also describing Kate as ‘a little grand’ and occasionally abrupt.” They have surrounded themselves with people who say ‘yes’ to everything so they get no proper advice.”
Well, in this case, is anyone surprise that Prince William is just doing whatever he pleases? Let’s just hope he changes his ways before the public turns against him.
