Best Actors Who Should Get Back On Track

Posted on

Eternal fame has a certain ring to it, but it doesn’t exist – everyone ends up forgotten sooner or later. Those 12 best actors have had quite memorable careers, but still, we believe they deserve to be much more renowned than they are now!

HALLE BERRY

Halle Berry has joined a long list of famous names and she’s now trying to keep her name in the headlines by starring in television hits. If you saw her performance in Catwoman or Gothika, you will probably be glad to hear that; if you prefer Monster’s Ball, your opinion might differ. We still hope that Halle Berry will one day star in another Hollywood blockbuster, although actresses like Jessica Lange or Kathy Bates prove they’re much needed in the world of television, too.

HUGH GRANT

There was a decade or more in Hugh Grant’s career, back in the ‘90s and ‘00s, when he certainly proved he is a great craftsman. Doesn’t that mean he should now be on his way to some more great movies we could remember him for? Currently, he’s only working at The Man, a TV-to-movie transfer from U.N.C.L.E. We’re not awaiting an opus magnum, but hopefully it will kick start Hugh’s career back towards an apex.

RENEE ZELLWEGER

Although back in her day she even won an Oscar, Renee hasn’t been featured in any production for years already. The only subject worthy of headlines that concerns her is whether she’s had a plastic surgery – doesn’t sound like she’s at the apex of her career. Fortunately, she seems to be eventually getting back in action: she’s already scheduled two big productions, one also starring Keanu Reeves and directed by Courtney Hunt.  Let’s hope Bridget Jones’s Diary’s star is on her way to regain fame and the place she deserves in Hollywood.

JACK NICHOLSON

Jack Nicholson hasn’t starred in a movie for six years already and it may be for the better, as his previous flicks weren’t of much quality either. However, the fans are still hoping for just one more great production from the owner of three Oscars. It doesn’t even have to be too serious – a production like the 2003 Something’s Gotta Give will certainly be enough.

HARRISON FORD

Back in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Harrison Ford was THE name. Now, it seems that Ford has contrived a genius plan of getting his fame back – he’s starring in numerous reboots and sequels, including the newest Star Wars and rumored Blade Runner and Indiana Jones. We’d like to see Harrison Ford play some kind of new, fresh role, but well, considering how that turned out in Cowbows & Aliens – maybe it’s for the best if he keeps to his old, well-trodden paths.

AL PACINO

It’s quite difficult to comprehend that an actor who starred in movies like The Godfather or Dog Day Afternoon could have let THIS happen to his career. However, he’s been churning out some decent productions as of late, both on Broadway and in television, so maybe there’s still hope for his name? If Spielberg or Scorsese had a go at cooperation with Al Pacino, maybe he could end up an actor reborn, just like Robert De Niro in his day.

CHRISTOPHER WALKEN

There are few actors of his age – 72 years of age! – who manage to keep up the pace at which Christopher Walken works, starring in one movie after another. Unfortunately, quality and quality don’t go hand in hand in Walken’s case. It’s been more than a decade since he produced a movie we could sincerely call good. Or decent, at least. Just like Al Pacino, Walken needs a director who will DIRECT, channel his talent into a good movie – just like Steven Spielberg did when Walken actually got nominated for an Oscar in 2002.

MEG RYAN

It seems to us that it’s high time Meg Ryan appeared on the big screen yet again – it’s been more than two decades since her marriage to Dennis Quaid ended, seemingly taking the great actress’s career with it to the grave. The amazing productions she created together with Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally…; Sleepless in Seattle) deserve some more recognition – and, possibly, a continuation.

SUSAN SARANDON

Think you’re worthless? Just think about this: Susan Sarandon, we do mean the one who’s won an Oscar, has recently played Marilyn Monroe’s mother in a biography, a Razzie-nominated performance in the Melissa McCarthy Tammy, and starred in a direct-to-DVD The Calling. We just hope that her TV release will be of higher quality as she’s going to star in an Epix TV series together with Nick Nolte, with whom she’s already shared the stage in Lorenzo’s Oil.

MICKEY ROURKE

Mickey Rourke has already had his go at being reborn as an actor with an amazing 2008 performance. His role in The Wrestler moved us so much it still haunts us in our sleep to this day, so why doesn’t Rourke follow up on this great success? Starring in movies like Iron Man and Sin City is not enough when you’re so talented.

UMA THURMAN

It’s such a shame when a career of someone so talented goes down the drain – Uma Thurman should have called it quits after My Super Ex-Girlfriend, but that obviously didn’t happen. Now we’re just aching witnesses to her crappy production like Smash or Motherhood – will she ever get back on track again? Quentin Tarantino was the one to both initiate and the reignite her career, so he’s probably Uma’s only hope. The Hateful Nine likely won’t be happening, but maybe something else…

JUDE LAW

The new millennium witnessed some memorable productions by Jude Law. The golden boy of Britain even managed to garner two Oscar nominations and coworked with Steven Spielger in his A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, also having praise heaped on his back for the performance. Since then, Law has still been active, starring in various low-key productions, but doesn’t an actor of his kind have the merit to be achieving much more in Hollywood? We’d like to see him give a performance on the level of The Talented Mr. Ripley – still waiting.
